7 Fat Burning Snacks for Weight Loss
Trying to cut some flab but not quite sure what you should be eating? Don’t worry, you’d be unusual if you didn’t have that problem! But while there’s an almost endless supply of meal plans that will tell you what to eat for your three main meals, snacks are often an afterthought.
We’ve got ya covered, though! Below, you’ll find a list of our favorite fat burning snacks for weight loss, with a little something for everyone’s tastes. Work these snacks into your diet along with some other small changes that speed up weight loss and you’ll see results in no time!
Yogurt with Raspberries: Who says you can’t enjoy what you’re eating while losing weight? Treating yourself to a nice yogurt with raspberries not only tastes great, but also has proven weight loss benefits — especially in tummy fat.
University of Tennessee researchers found that those who ate three servings of yogurt per day saw significant reductions in stomach fat. Add some raspberries to sweeten things up — they’re high in vitamin C which boosts your body’s ability to burn fat!
Cottage Cheese: This is one of our favorite snacks for losing weight. Why? One common problem we all have when losing weight is avoiding hunger, right? Well, cottage cheese is packed with protein, which will help keep you feeling full long after you’ve finished.
Cottage cheese is also high in calcium. In addition to helping your body build and maintain strong bones, calcium also has been shown to aid in the fat burning process, making it an excellent choice for a fat burning snack.
String Cheese: You’ll have trouble finding an easier to eat on the go snack that burns fat than string cheese. With about 6g of protein, you’ll stay feeling full until you’re next meal (very, very important for avoiding diet-killing binges or overeating).
And at just 80 calories per string, it’s a snack that fits easily into any meal plan guilt-free. Like cottage cheese, it’s also high in calcium which is vital to your body’s fat burning process. (Oh yeah… string cheese just tastes great too!)
Grapefruit: A fantastic choice for a snack or just to start your day, grapefruits are a tasty way to get your body burning fat at a quick rate. And its weight loss benefits have been back by science too!
Researchers studied 91 obese participants and found that by eating just half a grapefruit 30 minutes before meals, they lost on average 3.5 pounds over 12 weeks without making any other lifestyle changes. Participants also saw a significant reduction in insulin levels.
Looking for a quicker, on the go option? Results were similar for participants who drank 8 ounces of grapefruit juice instead.
Skim Chocolate Milk: Think you can’t cut the flab while still satisfying your sweet tooth? Wrong! You’ll need to be a bit careful on serving size, as an 8oz serving is 139 calories, but skim chocolate milk is a fantastic option with a smooth chocolate taste.
It delivers 8g of protein that will ward off hunger pangs, and it’s yet another fat burning snack from our list that utilizes the amazing fat burning benefits of calcium. It’s also more beneficial for muscle recovery and building than its unflavored counterpart, regular skim milk.
Green Tea: Another fat burning drink that has incredible weight loss benefits, green tea should be a part of any weight loss diet. For starters, it contains the antioxidant catechin, which has been found to decrease body fat and waist size. But it doesn’t stop there.
It also has been proven to raise your resting metabolism by 4%, meaning you’ll burn about 80 calories more per day without doing anything at all different. And you can really kick your body’s fat burning into high gear by working out, as green tea’s been shown to increase fat oxidation by 17% during exercise!
Dark Chocolate: Yep, another snack option that burns fat AND indulges your sweet tooth! To begin with, dark chocolate contains caffeine which will give you the energy to keep your body moving while also increasing your metabolism and boosting fat burning.
Dark chocolate is also high in catechins, the same antioxidant found in green tea that has been found to reduce body fat and waist size! Watch your serving size if you’re counting calories, but a few small pieces should be able to easily fit into your diet plan.
And now that you know the snacks you can eat, you might be wondering what types of fat burning foods you should eat during your meals. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. No one was born knowing these things, and it’s easily the most daunting part of losing weight.
But nutrition researcher John Barban has long focused on studying how to most effectively answer these questions, with a particular focus on the natural differences between how men and women’s bodies respond to diet and exercise.
John recently started emphasizing 5 common vegetables that when added to a woman’s diet significantly increased their metabolism (which, in turn, rapidly speeds up both fat and weight loss) regardless of their lifestyle or body shape.
He explains it better than I ever could, so if you’d like to learn more you should watch this video that explains all you need to know. He goes into the 5 veggies at about the 1:05 mark of the video, so go watch now and he’ll make it all clear for you.
